Microsoft-designed school opens - BizTech - Technology - smh.com.au This is an interesting social experiment and one that hopefully will give a bunch of kids opportunities they would never have had otherwise. But despite the ends, I do worry about the complete control one company has over such a critical development period. This in particular stood out:
The high school will use an “education competency wheel”, patterned after a set of desirable traits Microsoft encourages among its employees.
Maybe there are other things and skills to life other than being a successful Microsoft employee. I don’t know, but I think that there should be some limits to what can actually be branded. Why not have McDonald’s High then? For the record, Microsoft only contributed staff and skills not the costs for actually building the school (US$63 million) so it seems they got a pretty sweet deal.
